What Is JEE Main Exam?

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a national-level competitive exam to enter the best engineering colleges in India. It consists of two papers: JEE Mains for admission into engineering programs (B.Tech) and the second paper to get admitted to B.Arch and B.Planning courses.

JEE Mains is a basic entrance-level examination in which a student’s knowledge of their core subjects, i.e., Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, is checked. With the help of this exam, the candidate can get admission to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs), and the Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). JEE Mains also serves as the selection criteria for JEE Advanced which is the entrance examination to get into the premium colleges of India, i.e., Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

JEE Mains is a Computer-based Test that is conducted in two sessions, and the score of the best attempt is considered. It consists of 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), and 10 Numerical Values Questions, out of which 5 are supposed to be attempted. Thus, it has a total of 75 questions. where each section (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) is worth 100 marks, making the total score 300. Four marks are awarded for each right answer, while one mark is deducted for every wrong answer.

Roadmap To Success In JEE Mains Exam

Here are some effective strategies to crack JEE Mains on your first attempt:

Step 1 Follow A Schedule

Make a study plan and follow it diligently. In the beginning, it may be hard to follow a routine, but start by devoting 2 hours every day and try to increase the duration of studying consistently. Remember, the quality of your preparation will outshine the quantity.

Step 2 Learn Theory From NCERT Books

Students ignore the power of NCERT Books, during their preparation for JEE Mains, and it has been seen that direct questions from NCERT are asked, especially in Chemistry. Thus, for theory, study your NCERT Books thoroughly before referring to other books.

Step 3 Practice Numericals

Students often focus so much on the theory that they lose marks in the numerical section. So, make a plan to practice at least ten numericals every day. And do not refer to 10 books for practicing numericals, instead, refer to one good book, ten times.

Step 4 Practice Previous Year Questions (PYQs)

Practicing PYQs by setting a timer will help you understand the subjects you still need practice in and the time you are taking in solving numericals. These Mock Tests, if attempted with utmost sincerity and dedication, can increase the efficiency of the candidate.

Step 5 Revise

Revision plays a significant role in any JEE aspirant’s story. Our mind tends to forget lessons after some time. Thus, it is important to revise topics and chapters in the gaps of three days, one week, one month, and finally, three months. Revision done in this way can attain the information in a great way.

Besides, following the above steps, every JEE aspirant needs to believe in themselves at all times and not let failures hold them back. Self-belief is an even stronger force than hard work, and students must foster a positive outlook in their preparation journey, at all times.

What Is The Eligibility For JEE Exam?

Qualifying Exam: To appear for the JEE Mains Exam, the candidate should have passed the 12th standard by getting a minimum of 75%.

Age Criteria: There is no age limit for appearing for JEE Mains except that the candidate can give it only for three consecutive years after they have passed class 12th.

Subjects: The applicants of B.Tech should have Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as their main subjects in class 12th.

What To Do With A Bad Score In JEE Mains?

Failing in JEE, or any other competitive exam can feel like a dead-end, even though the reality is far from different. The students who have a bad score in JEE can take a drop-year and prepare again or get admitted into other great technological institutes in India that take students with low JEE scores as well like NIT Raipur, Oxford College of Engineering, UPES Dehradun, NIIT Neemrana, etc. Some of these institutes have entrance tests for engineering programs, across various disciplines.

One such great institute is the Bansal Group of Institutes (BGI). BGI is considered the best engineering college in Central India and offers B.Tech as well as M.Tech courses. Admission into this top-notch college is done based on counseling conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE).

The admission into the engineering courses of BGI is ongoing. Enroll yourself now!

The Best Reference Books To Crack JEE Mains

There is often buzz among students regarding which books to refer to and this indecisiveness and peer pressure causes unnecessary stress and anxiety. It is important to remember that rather than referring to multiple books, it is sufficient to refer to one book in-depth, as all the books carry the same meaning.

Here is a list of the best reference books for JEE Mains and Advanced:

Physics

  1. Concepts of Physics by H.C. Verma (Volumes 1 and 2)
  2. Understanding Physics by D.C. Pandey
  3. Introduction to Electrodynamics by Griffith
  4. Fundamental Physics by Halliday
  5. Problems in Physics by A. Pinsky

Chemistry

  1. NCERT textbooks (11th and 12th)
  2. Organic Chemistry by O.P. Tandon
  3. Concise Inorganic Chemistry by J.D. Lee
  4. Numerical Chemistry by P. Bahadur
  5. Physical Chemistry by Peter Atkins

Maths

  1. Algebra by Dr. S.K. Goyal
  2. Differential Calculus by Amit Agarwal
  3. Integral Calculus by Amit Agarwal
  4. Master Resource Book in Mathematics for JEE Mains
  5. New pattern IIT JEE Mathematics by Dr. S.K. Goyal

The Final Say

JEE-Mains is an important entrance-level examination for all students who wish to pursue B.Tech, B.Arch, or B.Planning courses from the premium institutes of India. The exam is accepted by IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other state-funded institutions. With proper planning, dedication, and hard work, this tough competitive exam can be easily cracked.
