What Is The Role Of JEE Advanced Exam In The Engineering Admissions Process?

JEE Advanced is a prominent engineering entrance exam to get into the premium institutes of India i.e., Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The selection criteria for this challenging exam is JEE Mains. Every year, 15-20 lakh students appear for this exam to fight for 17,000 seats across various engineering disciplines at the 23 IITs. The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

JEE Advanced entrance exam is comparatively harder than JEE Mains as high level and in-depth questions are asked. The time gap between JEE Advanced entrance exam and JEE Mains is nearly 1.5 months. Thus, JEE students have to prepare for both exams beforehand. The syllabus of both exams includes topics from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

In this blog post, we will dive into the JEE Advanced entrance exam, its eligibility criteria, and its importance. So, let us dive in! But before that, are you looking for a course in engineering? If yes, the Bansal Group of Institutes is the best option for you!

What Is the JEE Advanced Entrance Exam?

The Joint Entrance Examination Advanced, or JEE Advanced is a competitive engineering exam to get into undergraduate BTech programs offered by IITs. IITs are considered the top institutes in India, and many professors and alumni of this Institute have contributed to the growth and development of India. JEE Advanced is conducted once every year in two parts: Paper 1 and Paper 2, after the results of JEE Mains are declared. JEE Mains thus acts as the entrance criteria and filters out students for the JEE Advanced entrance exam. Both exams are conducted by the NTA.

1. Mode Of Exam

JEE Advanced entrance exam is a Computer Based Test (CBT) that is conducted in online mode at centres allotted to the students.

2. Exam Pattern

The exam consists of two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. The candidate has 3 hours to solve each paper. Each paper consists of 54 questions, 18 from each subject, i.e., Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Paper 1 consists of 12 MCQs and 6 Numericals of each subject. Paper 2 consists of 6 MCQs with multiple correct answers, 6 numerical value questions and 6 questions with single integer answers (0–9) for each section.

3. Marking Scheme

For every correct answer, a student is rewarded with 4 marks, and for every incorrect answer, there is a negative marking of 1 mark in the JEE Advanced entrance exam.

JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who get a rank above 2,50,000 in JEE Mains are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. Additionally, candidates must also score a minimum of 75% in their Class 12th to secure their seat at IIT.

Difference Between JEE Advanced And Mains

Students are often confused between JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. Thus, here are some common differences between the two:

1. JEE Mains is mandatory for all students wanting to pursue BTech courses from top engineering colleges in India. The result of this exam decides whether the candidate is eligible for JEE Advanced or not. If the candidate has scored 85 percentile or above in JEE Mains, they are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. But, this cutoff varies based on the number of students who give this exam every year.

2. A good result in JEE Mains allows the candidate to get admission into the National Institutes of Technology (NITs),  while a good score in JEE Advanced entrance exam allows the candidate to get into the topmost institutes of India, which are the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs).

3. JEE Mains is comparatively easier than JEE Advanced. The former requires basic knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics while the latter involves extensive and deep practice of numericals and concepts.

Importance Of JEE Advanced

JEE Advanced is an esteemed engineering exam in India. Though many private universities conduct their own entrance tests for engineering programs, students still look forward to clearing JEE Advanced and securing their seats at IITs. Despite its difficulty level, lakhs of students try to pass Mains to become eligible for the JEE Advanced entrance exam.

Five Tips To Crack JEE Advanced

The five best tips to crack JEE Advanced are as follows:

Tip 1 Prepare In Advance

Students often wait to do the in-depth study for JEE Advanced once the results of JEE Mains are declared, but then, it becomes too late. There is a 1.5 month gap between the two exams, which is not enough time to prepare for a tough exam like JEE Advanced. Thus, students must prepare in advance.

Tip 2 Follow A timetable

Time is the most important resource for any student. Utilising time efficiently can make students successful in any field of life. Thus, it is important that students follow a schedule for studying. However, students must also ensure that their schedule is realistic and gives them room to breathe and relax.

Tip 3 Do Not Do Things Under Peer Pressure

Peer pressure is the worst enemy of students and often causes stress and anxiety. While preparing for an exam like JEE, students need to ensure that they refer to books that are best for them and join coaching institutes only if they feel like. Every child is different and thus students must make a preparation strategy that best suits them, regardless of what their friends or peers are doing.

Tip 4 Practice PYQs and Mock Tests

Practising Previous Year Questions (PYQs) is a great way for students to boost their confidence and understand the types of questions that come in exams. Practising Mock tests with a timer can help JEE aspirants analyse their speed and work on it accordingly.

Tip 5 Revise

Students must start their preparation for JEE Mains and Advanced, well in advance so that they have enough time for revision. The mind tends to forget things thus, recalling and revising the old topics ensures that the student remembers all that he/she has learned before.

Colleges After JEE Exam

The best engineering colleges of India offer seats to the top-scorers of the JEE Mains and Advanced. Colleges that offer BTech courses after the JEE Exam:

  • Bansal Group of Institutes (BGI)
  • Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)
  • National Institutes of Technology (NITs)
  • Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST)
  • Indian Institute of Space Education and Research
  • Indian Institute of Science (IISc)
  • Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs)
  • Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT)
  • Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT)

The Final Say

The JEE Advanced entrance exam is a competitive exam to get into the top engineering colleges of India, i.e., IITs. This exam is tougher than JEE Mains, as in-depth questions from the syllabus are asked. But, with the right strategy and commitment, students can crack this exam with flying colours. However, while preparing for any competitive exam, it is important for students to take care of their physical and mental well-being.

FAQs

1. Is JEE Advanced harder than JEE Mains?

JEE Advanced entrance exam is harder than JEE Mains as in-depth questions are asked to check the student’s concepts and knowledge, and since there are limited seats in the IITs, it is ensured that the most qualified students get admitted to these premium institutes.

 2. How much rank is required for IIT Advanced?

Candidates who have a rank above 2,50,000 in JEE Mains are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced but there may be small variations in this rank every year, depending upon the students who appear for Mains and the overall result.
